Kids Church
Children's Ministry

You are young, but do not let anyone treat you as if you were not important. Be an example to show the believers how they should live. Show them with your words, with the way you live, with your love, with your faith, and with your pure life.
1 Timothy 4 v12

Our children’s work runs at our Moor Street congregation, where we encourage children to be part of the opening time of worship.  All of our volunteers are DBS checked and required to complete our safeguarding processes, being supervised before being allowed to work with your children.  You can easily spot them by their blue t-shirts on a Sunday morning. Our team also includes volunteers who have completed first aid training and fire warden training.

Kids Church @ Moor Street

We want your kids to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.  Our teaching is “hands-on” to help keep the things we learn about God’s character and story central in their memory.  Every week is different but every week we learn more about our amazing Saviour, Healer, Baptiser and Coming King!

Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment with teaching accessible to their age.  Little Stars are age 3 to 5, covering the EYFS years.  They meet in the same room as Shooting Stars who are our age 5 to 7 (infant school) group.  Comets meet upstairs and are age 7 to 11 (junior school) group.

Kids Church start in the main service and head over to The Corner at approximately 11am where we split into different age groups for teaching, craft and games.  We provide a drink and a snack each week.

On second Sundays we also look at modern Heroes of the Faith and ask how their faith influenced what they did. People we have looked at include Corrie Ten Boom, Eric Liddell, George Jeffreys, William Tyndale and even interviewing missionaries from within our own congregation.

Transitions between groups are supported by our joint times and particularly fluid between Little Stars and Shooting Stars, so each child can be in the right place for them.

During the summer we often do more whole group sessions and some leaders do work with more than one age group.

Worship & Communion

On the second Sunday of each month we take some time for worship in Kids Church, with all three groups starting off together. We then split into our groups and explore communion, looking at both why we do it and answer questions the children have about it. For example, we’ve looked at what it means to examine ourselves and how to approach communion with reverence. On the fourth Sunday we join in with the first part of the main service where families are able to take communion together if they want to before the children head out.

Additional Support Needs

Some children need additional support, whether due to age, autism, ADHD, or simply being somewhere new for the first time. Both within the main Moor Street building and in The Corner we have developed spaces referred to as the Calm Corner.  These spaces have ear defenders, fidgets, a range of Christian books (both tactile and just fun to read!), a few younger toys and give somewhere to be a bit quieter and calm.

During our sessions we use visual timetables and the plan for the term is always available on the notice board. We also have an emergency phone link to the sound desk back in Church, but if it would help you and your children to see where and how Kids Church works first, please just ask for a tour of the spaces we use.

Our Kids Workers have experience of supporting children with additional needs, as a number of our team have SEN children of their own, so please do come and talk to us about how we can best support your child, as each one of them is unique!

Kids Church @ Princess Street

Our children's work runs in a room behind the main worship area in the same building as the main congregation, and every Sunday we offer a single 5-11 year olds group.

Building relationships

As well as our time together on a Sunday morning we want to encourage and support families.

The long-running and popular HUB runs on the 2nd Friday each month from 6:30pm at Moor Street, it is a free social evening with short Bible talk for families.

We also have new developments, with re-stART running kids sessions for the first time this summer and a SEN parent cafe in the planning stages!

Other socials are regularly arranged on a Sunday afternoon, usually the 3rd Sunday of the month, as a chance for parents to spend time with each other and the Kids Church workers whilst the kids let off steam together at a playground or similar!  These are run joint with Limitless (youth).

If you have any questions about the programmes or want to know more about bringing your kids along on a Sunday then please fill in our Contact Us form.

Planning your Visit

New to Church?

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

Key information about the church...

Where & when does the church meet?

We are "One Church in Two Locations" and  meet every Sunday at 10:30am at both of our buildings.

Moor StPrincess Street

Moor Street, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 3SU and Princess Street, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 2NR

We have limited parking at Moor Street and sadly there is no dedicated parking at Princess Street, you will need to find street parking nearby, but there is usually parking not too far away and we would encourage you to plan to arrive in time to find a space.

More details can be found on our locations page

What should I expect when I visit?

You will receive a very warm welcome at both of our locations, and our Welcome Teams will be happy help and answer your questions.

Each week our services
have a time of sung worship, communion and a Bible based message relevant to today.  We encourage our congrgeation to participate and so there is usually opportunity to pray, be prayed for, and share words of encouragement.

Refreshments
Tea, coffee and biscuits are served before the morning service at Princess Street and after the service at Moor Street. Both venues offer plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What happens to the kids at church?

Children stay with their parents at the start of the service in both congregations so we can worship together, before going out to their own age related activities.  We do ask that for safeguarding reasons, children are pre-registered when you arrive.

We have a fantastic Sunday based Church for Kids programme that runs in our community centre building (The Corner) across the road from the main building.  We ask parents to accompany their children across the road, and also to pick them up once the service has finished.  Every Sunday we offer:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years) in our small family room at the rear of the main church building
  • Little Stars (3-5 years - Pre-School age)
  • Shooting Stars (5-7 years - Infant School age)
  • Comets (8-11 years - Junior School age)

Is there anything for Youth?

Their programme varies week to week; usually they meet in the room behind the platform in the main building, apart from on the second Sundays when they join with the Church for Kids in The Corner building, and on fourth Sundays they saty in the main congregation adn are encouraged to get involved.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
