About Us

Here at Burton Elim Church we are "One Church in Two Locations" with congregations in Moor Street and Princess Street that meet at 10:30 on a Sunday morning.  Both congregations are made up of people from all walks of life, all ages and different nations, and offer two different styles of service as we recognise that not everyone is the same; however we share the same heart in both locations to see people encountering and being transformed by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.

If you are new to church or the area, please check out our New to Church page to get more information about what goes on on a Sunday.

What else happens at Burton Elim Church?

As well as our time together on a Sunday, we offer a range of different activities through the week for all ages.  For example:
  • We have a network of "Connect Groups" that meet in people's homes on different days and times throughout the week where we get the opportunity to "do life together" in meaningful relationships.
  • For families inside and outside of the church, on the second Fridays of each month we run an evening of activities, food and games called: "The Hub."
  • For those struggling with loneliness, wellbeing or mental health, we offer an art based peer support group called "re-stART";
  • For our youth, on the fourth Fridays of the month we run a Limitless "Youth Connect" group; and
  • For our seniors, on the second and fourth Tuesdays we run "Tuesday Fellowship", a time of friendship, food and encouragment structured around a simple time of worship.
Check out our "What's Going On" tab for more details.

We are an Elim Church

Elim

Burton Elim Church is part of the worldwide Elim Pentecostal denomination, and for more than a century Elim has been one movement with many churches and is as committed as ever to move together in mission.  With over a 100-year history, our desire is for every Elim leader and church to Advance into a new season of fresh mission, extending their influence, imapct and outreach, reaching beyond and serving the lcoal community.

Elim's beliefs can be summarised simply as being "foursquare" - we believe Jesus is saviour, healer, baptiser adn the coming King.

At the heart of Elim's purpose is thedesire that every church would practically show the good news of Jesus to their community through offering relief to anyone struggling with "disability, age, infirmity, sickness, social or economic circumstances, or caring responsibilities."

What does Elim mean?

Elim is actually a place found in the Bible in Exodus 15 v 27. It was an Oasis that the people of Israel came to on their way out of Egypt. It was a place of wells and palm trees and represented real refreshment in the midst of the wilderness. It was also around this time that God promised to be their healer as well as their deliverer. This was an important doctrine to our founding fathers and continues to be so with us.

Incidentally Elim literally means "Palm Trees" so you will often see them in our literature.  Our desire is to be an Oasis in a world that is increasingly difficult for many.

Elim believes that, as its members discover their destiny and are equipped to fulfil God's Kingdom priorities through spiritual maturity, numerical fruitfulness will ensue. This is achieved through sound teaching and discipleship programmes, small groups and the ongoing ministry of the Church.

There are many hundreds of Churches networked within Elim. They range from small groups recently launched to some of the largest congregations in Britain. Our emphasis however is not only on growing larger Churches but on building bigger people - people who have a heart to fulfill their God-given destiny and rise to the level of His plan and purpose for their life.
