training and resources

One of our values as a church is:

Creativity Value Landscape

We are therefore committed to trying to help equip & train people to be disciples in creative & interactive ways, and some of the training courses / ministry days we offer include:

Discipleship Exposed

Discipleship Exposed
“Discipleship Exposed” is a first steps discipleship course for small groups, designed to help people start their journey into fullness of life in Christ and to become established as part of our church’s Connect Group network. It is not intended to be an intellectual, theological Bible study, but rather an interactive journey that engages peoples emotions and creativity with sound Biblical understanding.  As with any “course”, the more people put into it, the more they will get out of it and each session is purposefully intended to encourage interaction and group discussion, as when people discover that others share their fears, doubts or worries they can draw strength from journeying together in a small group. People also learn more when they discover for themselves rather than try and assimilate raw information, so the more you can encourage people to share honestly the more they are likely to identify with, and have confidence to break through their fears and grow in their faith.

Prayer Ministry Training

Prayer Ministry
Spread over four 3-hour sessions, this training shares our heart for how to develop prayer ministry to equip people to pray for others in the power of the Holy Spirit, and covers:

  1. Foundations;
  2. Releasing the Prophetic;
  3. Spiritual Warfare; and
  4. Healing

This training is designed to ensure that:

  • everyone who ministers within the church does so under the covering of spiritual authority and accountability;
  • as shepherds of the flock, we can have full confidence in those who are ministering to others;
  • people receiving prayer ministry experience a consistent approach and standard;
  • we minister to people in safe and appropriate ways; and
  • we minister in the power of the Holy Spirit, not our own strength.

 Demolishing Strongholds

Demolishing Strongholds
On this ministry day, you will have the opportunity to gain a biblical understanding of temptation; the nature of it, where it comes from, and how it can lead to unhealthy strongholds forming (entrenched habits) that affect our day to day life. For some this can be struggling with negative thinking or criticism, whilst for others it may include addiction, repeating unhelpful choices or habits or simply feeling stuck in situations that never seem to change. We will give you the opportunity to learn how to break the power of these strongholds through allowing the Holy Spirit to work in you to gain freedom, and give you practical tools that will help you to maintain your freedom by continuing to put in place healthy practices in partnership with the Holy Spirit.

Small Group Leader's Training

Small Group Leader's Traning
On this training day, you will have the opportunity to explore what is involved in hosting, and leading, a small group.  The day is designed to help you understand what is expected of leaders and hosts to help you decide whether this is right for you.  It will give you the opportunity to learn why small groups are so important , and how they fit within the overall ministry and life of the church. We will share with you the role and purpose of small groups, as well as what the characteristics are required of hosts and leaders.  You will be given the opportunity to discuss practical aspects of meeting in people’s homes that will help you to put in place healthy practices in partnership with the Holy Spirit.

Leadership Unlocked

Leadership Unlocked
When we talk about discipleship, it is helpful to remember that the Greek term mathētēs refers generally to any “student,” “pupil,” “apprentice,” or “adherent.”  Any apprentice will tell you that it is necessary to learn the tools of the trade before seeking to use them, yet in many areas of life and especially in church ministry we are often thrown into positions of responsibility without anyone ever taking the time to equip us for the task at hand. This training course is born out of a conviction that for healthy, sustainable and fruitful church growth it is necessary to “to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:12) It recognises that there is a distinct difference between leaders and managers, but “good leadership always includes responsibility for managing.”  It seeks to help leaders discover and develop the practical tools they need to be good leaders in their individual situations by drawing on concepts and principles from experience and a wide range of sources from inside and outside of the church. Whilst based on biblical principles throughout, the emphasis is on “training” – developing the tools/skills that will help us practically to lead well, rather than “teaching” – providing in-depth theological exposition.

Run over five 3-hour sessions, it covers:

  • Session 1: What Is Leadership?
  • Session 2: Models Of Leadership
  • Session 3: The Qualities of Leadership
  • Session 4: Discovering Your Leadership Style
  • Session 5: The Purpose Of Leadership
 This training programme:
  • Is for anyone who is already involved in ministry, in leading any group of people, or who would like to develop towards future leadership;
  • Is designed to be undertaken alongside an already busy and demanding life;
  • Will give quality practical skills to lead and serve well in any area of life;
  • Will help people personally develop in their relationships with others; and
  • Will help the church to increase its capacity for growth through releasing people’s potential.

Planning your Visit

New to Church?

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

Key information about the church...

Where & when does the church meet?

We are "One Church in Two Locations" and  meet every Sunday at 10:30am at both of our buildings.

Moor StPrincess Street

Moor Street, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 3SU and Princess Street, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 2NR

We have limited parking at Moor Street and sadly there is no dedicated parking at Princess Street, you will need to find street parking nearby, but there is usually parking not too far away and we would encourage you to plan to arrive in time to find a space.

More details can be found on our locations page

What should I expect when I visit?

You will receive a very warm welcome at both of our locations, and our Welcome Teams will be happy help and answer your questions.

Each week our services
have a time of sung worship, communion and a Bible based message relevant to today.  We encourage our congrgeation to participate and so there is usually opportunity to pray, be prayed for, and share words of encouragement.

Refreshments
Tea, coffee and biscuits are served before the morning service at Princess Street and after the service at Moor Street. Both venues offer plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What happens to the kids at church?

Children stay with their parents at the start of the service in both congregations so we can worship together, before going out to their own age related activities.  We do ask that for safeguarding reasons, children are pre-registered when you arrive.

We have a fantastic Sunday based Church for Kids programme that runs in our community centre building (The Corner) across the road from the main building.  We ask parents to accompany their children across the road, and also to pick them up once the service has finished.  Every Sunday we offer:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years) in our small family room at the rear of the main church building
  • Little Stars (3-5 years - Pre-School age)
  • Shooting Stars (5-7 years - Infant School age)
  • Comets (8-11 years - Junior School age)

Princess Street

Our children's work runs in a room behind the main worship area in the same building as the main congregation, and every Sunday we offer a single 5-11 year olds group

Is there anything for Youth?

Asset 1

Our Youth Work, Limitless, runs at our Moor Street congregation, and is for 11-16's.  As with Kids Church the youth join with the main congregation to begin with before leaving part way through the service to their own age related activity.

Their programme varies week to week; usually they meet in the room behind the platform in the main building, apart from on the second Sundays when they join with the Church for Kids in The Corner building, and on fourth Sundays they saty in the main congregation adn are encouraged to get involved.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
