Our Heart and Values
In January 2023, the elders shared with the church a plan for moving forward that is focused on being a "Values-Based Church" where what we do comes out of who we are.
Our Mission
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28: 19-20
Our mission is the Great Commission, with a focus on reaching those outside the church and seeing people become disciples, not just converts. This means we have to "Be disciples, who make disciples."
Our Vision
"My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power."
1 Corinthians 2:4
Our vision is to be a Holy Spirit led community, who deliberately and intentionally create space for the Holy Spirit to move, a community that learns to let the Holy Spirit lead and do the work of conviction, transformation and sanctification.
Listen here to the stories of Sophia and David who in 2022-2023 experienced the power of the Holy Spirit at work in their lives.
Our Values
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer... they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together... And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
Acts 2:42-47
Whilst our mission and vision are familiar themes, to achieve these we want to be a community shaped by a set of three "heart values." These values need to underpin who we are, and shape what we do.
At the centre of these heart values is the picture of an Acts 2 church, doing life together and "being church" not "doing church" in such a way that the world experiences the transforming love and life of a vibrant, counter-cultural community full of the Holy Spirit. Our prayer is that this will be shaped by Quality Relationships, Creativity, and Freedom.
These three values must shape the culture of the church and inform both how we do life together, and what our ministry looks like, and we are unpacking and developing these values as part of building this shared culture and ministry across both congregations.
